I too sold my gold cube and run the Multi Sluice now just because I dredge and the amount of super fines in my area is not that great, and I can get down to PURE GOLD in about 2 minutes with my Multi Sluice. However, the question keeps popping up. 8220Can I run GoldHog mats in the Gold Cube8221 Today we decided to find out if the new Wave mat would benefit the GoldCube users at all.
Jun 07, 2016nbsp018332Just like the blue bowl concentrator, the gold cube is used to extract very fine gold from its primary material. The gold cube is light and small in size, which makes it very much portable. Along with portability, the Cold Cube runs on a 12-volt battery and can process about 1000 pounds of concentrates per hour.
The Gold Cube8217s primary function is two fold. First it will super concentrate your concentrates and do a great job. Next, a lot of people use it when running black beach sands in Michigan, Washington, and Alaska. Lately many have started putting a stream sluice lined with our washer mat or MotherLode mat as a secondary sluice system after the Gold Cube, catching the tailings and running them. This DOUBLE RUN system allows for higher volumes and feed rates.
In my opinion and experience running one, it does struggle a bit with RAW pay like we have in the south east. The vortex conveyor matting used plugs up with clay and vegetation. It also does the same on LONG runs as a primary prospecting unit. So that is where we thought the Wave Mat might be helpful.
The Gold Cube8217s flow is fairly low. It uses an 1100 gph pump that lifts up high, and spreads out over 128243. So the water is maybe 148243 deep running of the mats. Not enough for most of our matting. However today we ran the Wave Mat in the second tray and we were very pleased with the exchange action.

VIDEO Prototype test of Gold Cube processing 1,000 Lbs. down to 1 Lb. of super concentrates. We classified the materials with a 8 screen then pushed the limits of the Gold Cube using only three units instead of the usual 4.
Slick Plate. The slick plate on the Gold Cube has a precisely controlled water flow that is designed to process very large amounts of 8 mesh and smaller material in a very short time. Withcontrolled water flow, the slick plate does 2 things 1. It turns aggregate material into a slurry, and 2. The water flow forces the lighter particles ahead of the heavier material. It is quite exciting to actually see your fine gold creeping down the slick plate Gold, the heaviest element in the slurry, will be the last to reach the trough. Unique G-Force technology cleans and seperates the gold.
Vortex Matting. The Gold Cubes vortex matting works because water flow interacts with a combination of very small pillar walls and cavitiesabout 7,056 of them per mat. Just like a tornado, the spinning creates a low pressure zone in the center of each of the cavities. Passing gold will be trapped and forced to the bottom of the vortexes and held in place by the lighter material. As gold-laden material is introduced into each vortex mat, it will displace and replace the lighter material. This will create about a cup of super concentrates at clean-up. Amazing.

The Banjo Pan is the newest addition to the gold prospecting community. Using the degrees of separation principle Gold Cube has come up with a pan that can be used wet, dry and even underwater As time has passed Gold Cube has made modifications that increase the size and depth.

Simply attach the stand extensions to your existing cube stand and attach the 5 foot hose included and you are ready to go for the gold.

Talk to enough gold prospectors and you get a whole lot of ideas of how best to find gold and much more, get it. Along with those ideas of where to find gold has been a slew of tools, machines and doohickeys. Some are good, some not so good, and some have been downright impressive.
What really got my attention is when Mike Pung, co-owner and developer of the Gold Cube asked, Why are we in 2013 and were still relying on 19th Century technology to get our gold Considering his wealth of knowledge, its no surprise Pung retired from the USAF in 1994 with years as an instructor in heat and air, hydraulics, electronic generation, and engine mechanics on gas diesel and jet engines.
When he told me how much more different the Gold Cube is from whats out there, mainly sluices and pans for placer mining, and then how much gold is lost in that process, I was hooked Most technology on separating gold from material and quickly getting down to concentrates is based on the natural riffle system of a river. If youre a steelhead angler like me, you know exactly what this looks like. After all this, is how Mother Nature naturally washes and catches gold that has been washed into waterways for centuries from lode or bench deposit high up the hill or mountainside.
When you look at a gold cube it doesnt seem that compelling, especially when you see all these other gadgets out there that dance this way and that, promising so much. That often is part of their problem, especially if youre new to this and a one-person operation. For its dimensions, the Gold Cube does quite a bit because of co-developer Mike Pung and Steve Red Wilcoxs profound understanding of gravity and hydrodynamics small enough to be easily transported and big enough and efficiently designed to do more than a long run concentrator.
If youve ever flown a plane into a low-pressure zone, you know exactly what happens to the gold then. It drops like a heavy piece of rock. And since its pretty much the heaviest particle, it stays and the lighter materials continue on their way.
The full Gold Cube package includes four separator trays, connective joints and plugs, a water pump that runs on a 12-volt battery, a collapsible stand and all the necessary tubing to get the water running properly. It has to be level to run properly, so the water runs properly across each separator tray.
In its most regulated form, one where water is brought along, a water tray system can be set up under the Gold Cube so that it can be a completely self-contained concentrator. The recommended container is a concrete mixing tub. Lowes at present seems to be selling the thickest walled, most durable. With the pump sucking water out of the tub, the waters clarity can be extended by putting a elongate planter, or Tupperware, tub right under the outflow to catch all the processed material.
If youre right next to a stream, or water source, you can treat the pump like a station suction dredge nozzle and stick it in a submerged bucket to keep material from being sucked in and clogging your tubing and ports.
All said and done, my initial experience with the Gold Cube was very impressive. Its not the amount of gold that caught my eye when cleaned out the Gold Cube after four 5 gallons buckets of material. It was the finite size the fines that the Gold Cube was able to separate out were not just talking pinhead size were talking pin-point size fine gold. Nuggets are nice, but gold is valued by weight and purityfines and flakes beat nuggets. if theres gold in your material, the Gold Cube holds it.
