If you have any questions or concerns please comment here or my email address is in my profile. Ive worked on 100s of these.since 1991, even more of the same design in the electric flavor. I have over 20 years experience working on these professionally. 90 chance it is the igniter glowing or not.
Also, when you said quotthe heat lowers their resistance, quot is that why the flame will light when the dryer is cool but it wont continue to light once the dryer is hot.
Without a doubt it is 3, the gas valve coils. Replace those and you will be up and rinning. You will need a phillips and a 516quot screwdriver. If your phillips is so long where you must remove the drum, please note how the belt is hooked around the pulley and practice taking it off and putting it back on before removing the drum.
I dont agree with ABCellers, in my experience if the ignitor is bad the dryer wont heat AT ALL. And if it heats for the first or first and second attempt and then just doesnt catch the flame, its the heating coils every time.
You dont need to go around replacing parts to find out the source of the problem. Put a clamp on AMP meter over one of the wires to the ignighter, leave it there for 10 minutes. If it is more than 15 less than the plate reading on the coils the ignighter is the problem - not drawing enough amperage to open the coils. Another sign of a bad ignighter is it has dull spots and lost its sparkles. - You and your source are WRONGE. So wrong, wrong needs spelled wrong.

I can relate. Most washers and dryers are held together with 516quot, 14quot, a philips head, and on a very rare occasion you will find a 38. If you dont have a clamp on AMP meter to measure the AMPs being drawn by the ignighter to open the coils, look at the ignighter. If it is more dull than sparkley, the ignighter is MOST LIKELY the problem, also look for cracks on the ignighter. If the ignighter has no cracks and is all sparkley, the coils are the problem 99 of the time.
As a rule, the causes of breakage of drying machine occur one and the same in 90, so manufacturers provide recommendations for their elimination in the troubleshooting table. Read about how to restore the correct operation of the device.
If the heating element burns out on the Kenmore 80 Series dryer, it does not heat. The element uses resistance coils that heat up and glow. A fan forces air over the coils into the drum to dry the clothes.
Tools needed to repair the Kenmore 80 Series dryer include a nut driver and needle-nose pliers. Before beginning any work on this appliance SF Gate recommends unplugging the appliance to eliminate the risk of electric shock.
The heating element on this model of dryer is located behind the back panel. Hex head screws hold the panel in place and require removal before lifting the panel. Once the panel is removed, needle-nose pliers provide the grasp necessary to remove the wire from the terminal on the high limit thermostat and the wire from the thermostat. The hex driver also loosens the screws holding the heating element assembly in place. Upon removal of these screws, the heating element should lift from the dryer. Reversing the process allows the owner to install the new element.
Once the repair is complete, the owner should test the dryer to ensure it is heating. After it runs a few minutes, the temperature inside the drum should be several degrees warmer than ambient temperatures.

To troubleshoot a Kenmore 80 series washing machine, begin by identifying the problem and its associated solutions. Common problems include failure to drain or spin and failure to fill with water.
The first steps include checking the power cord, checking the water pressure and checking the lid switch. Further troubleshooting is necessary if the washer is receiving power and water. Determine whether the washer fills, drains, spins or agitates. Each of these actions can be associated with different problems. For instance, if the washer drains but does not agitate, the problem may be a damaged or broken motor coupler.
Sears PartsDirect recommends checking the lid switch with an ohm or volt meter if the washer fails to fill with water, drain or spin. Failure to drain may also be caused by a blockage in the drainage line. Remove the drainage line and clean it before replacing to determine whether a blockage is causing the washer to malfunction. RepairClinic recommends checking for small items, such as socks, in the drain pump after cleaning the drain lines if the washer isnt draining properly.
A washer that overfills may be caused by a malfunctioning pressure switch or a slow water flow from the supply lines. Check the filters in the supply lines, and clean the filters where the supply hoses connect to the washer. Contacting the vendor where the washing machine was purchased may also help troubleshoot problems.
